The world-renowned ALLOY ORCHESTRA returns to The Ross to perform live, original accompaniment for the silent film GALLERY OF MONSTERS.
Tickets available online and at the Ross Box Office.
Called “the best in the world at accompanying silent films,” by Roger Ebert, the Alloy Orchestra is a three-man musical ensemble, writing and performing live accompaniment to classic silent films. Working with an outrageous assemblage of peculiar objects, they thrash and grind soulful music from unlikely sources. Performing at prestigious film festivals and cultural centers in the US and abroad, Alloy has helped revive some of the great masterpieces of the silent era. GALLERY OF MONSTERS
Another amazing circus film gets an Alloy Orchestra score. Until this recent restoration by Lobster Films in France, Gallery of Monsters has been virtually unknown and unseen. This silent melodrama follows Riquet and his wife Raldaa, who run away from their small town to join the circus. When the tyrannical owner and evil lion tamer make unwanted advances toward Raldaa, the couple finds their lives in danger. But the circus is a family and their fiercely loyal fellow performers soon come to the couple's aid. (1924, Directed by Jaque Catelain).
Alloy Orchestra’s score was commissioned by Indiana University Cinema and the Indiana University Office of the Bicentennial.
