BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN
SYNOPSIS
In Radu Jude’s (Aferim!) provocative Golden Bear-winning comedy, schoolteacher Emi finds her career and reputation under threat after a personal sex tape is leaked on the Internet. Forced to meet the parents demanding her dismissal, Emi refuses to surrender to their pressure. Filmed entirely during Bucharest’s lockdown, BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN delivers an incendiary mix of unconventional form, irreverent humor, and scathing commentary on hypocrisy and prejudice in our societies. Reviews
“[Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn] is a real achievement, though not one that makes for easy or comfortable viewing. Emi, in the last scenes of “Bad Luck Banging,” reluctantly becomes almost a Joan of Arc figure, a would-be martyr for sanity and reason facing down hypocrites, bigots and slut-shamers. Pascariu’s performance, always quiet and understated (apart from those first three minutes), turns almost heroic as the movie approaches its frenzied, demoralizing conclusion. “
“One of European cinema’s most unclassifiable auteurs has delivered the bitter pill we deserve.”
“The film makes us laugh out loud and wince at the same time, and two days in, it is already one of my top films of this year’s edition.”
