Join us for a movie talk with Francisco Souto (Director of the School of Art, Art History, and Design at UNL) and Karen Kunc (Printmaking Artist and founder of Constellation Studios) following the 1:00 p.m. screening of TAKING VENICE on Sunday, July 14. Moderated by artist Toan Vuong. Presented by Friends of The Ross.

FRANCISCO SOUTO
Francisco Souto is a Venezuelan-born American artist known for his highly detailed drawings and prints. He received a BFA from Herron School of Art and an MFA from The Ohio State University. His honors include more than 45 national and international awards and grants including: Lorenzo iL Magnifico Award at the XII Florence Biennale, International Biennial of Contemporary Art Special prize at the 7th International Triennial of Prints in Japan, selected prize at the 12th International Biennial of Prints and Drawing in China and the International Award at the British International Print Exhibition. His prints and drawings have been published in many catalogs, magazine and books including Printmaking today: International magazine of contemporary graphic art, published in the UK and Printmaking: A complete guide to materials & processes, published by Prentice Hall. Souto’s work has been exhibited in over 95 venues in the last 12 years including the Fonds d’Art Moderne et Cotemporain, France; New York International Print Fair, Works on paper New York City and The armory Center for the Arts in California. His work is held in several private and public collections including the Indianapolis Museum of Art, National Taiwan Museum of Art, Sheldon Museum of Art, Blanton Museum of Art, The Romania National Museum of Art, the Lakeview Museum of Art and the Till Richter Museum of Contemporary Art in Germany.
He participated in the exhibition Epicenter/Epicentro: Re Tracing the Plains, on the occasion of the Venice Biennale 54th International Arts Exhibition in Venice, Italy and just recently was selected for the exhibition “State of the Art 2020: Discovering American Art Now” at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
KAREN KUNC
Karen Kunc is a recipient of a Nebraska Arts Council Fellowship, two NEA/MAAA Fellowships, Fulbright awards to Bangladesh and Finland, among many other awards, grants and distinctions. She has been awarded residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Anderson Ranch Art Center, Venice Printmaking Workshop, and the Nagasawa Art Park Japan. Kunc has been featured in over 125 solo exhibitions, and has participated in numerous group and juried competitions nationally and Internationally. She lives and works in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is the owner/director of Constellation Studios. She is Professor Emerita of Art of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
TOAN VUONG
Toan Vuong is a Nebraskan born artist from Omaha who received his MFA in Printmaking from Temple University: Tyler School of Art. He received his bachelors in Fine Arts and along with his bachelors in French Modern Language in 2014 from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. In 2016 he received a fellowship to study at Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA and Temple Rome University, Italy for printmaking. He is currently making work and teaching in the state of Nebraska.
