The Ross is the place to be this summer
- APR 11, 2026
When the Nebraska heat hits the triple digits, what better place to go than a cool, dark movie theater with other local film fans? We have a great lineup of special events and series coming to The Ross in the summer months, beginning with the return of the MADE IN NEBRASKA series on June 3. Every Wednesday Night in June and July we will be featuring a different movie filmed in the Cornhusker state. Tickets are just $5.
More information, including tickets and showtimes, coming soon!

Also returning this summer is our third annual Family Film Fest, with FREE Saturday morning screenings June 6-August 1. Now in its third year, this popular series brings the magic of movies to film lovers of all ages and provides a free, fun activity for the whole family. Presented with generous support from Union Bank & Trust and Friends of The Ross.
Our 2026 festival includes cinema classics, animated favorites, uplifting drama, and beloved comedies. Some of this year’s films are best for older kids and teens so be sure to review the film content information if you are bringing younger film fans.
Family Film Fest tickets are available at the Ross box office the day of the show (not available online). Children must be accompanied by an adult. There will not be an FFF screening on Saturday, July 4, due to the holiday.
In addition to our special summer series, look for National Theatre’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses (July 25 & 28), the Native American Film Series on the second Monday of each month, and plenty of Ross movies every day on the big screen. The Friends of The Ross are the heart and soul of our theater and if you’ve been thinking about joining or upgrading your membership, the Spring Membership Drive (April 15-May 31) is a great time to do it!
As long as there has been a film theater at the University of Nebraska, there has been a visiting artist program. Starting in 1973, the Sheldon Film Theater Film/Video Showcase welcomed guests, including Richard Myers (1973), Jon Jost (1975), Wim Wenders (1982), Wallace Shawn (1982), Martin Sheen (1985), and Werner Herzog (1986).
