UNL’s Film Studies Program, The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, and The Ross present the films of Booker T. Mattison followed by Q&As with the filmmaker December 5 & 6.
This event is part of the Film Speakers Series presented by the Film Studies Program, which brings together filmmakers, scholars, and film enthusiasts to explore new perspectives in cinema. Through conversation, analysis, and community dialogue, the Film Speakers Series invites audiences to deepen their understanding of film as an art form and cultural force.

BOOKER T. MATTISON is a filmmaker, author, and associate professor of Entertainment and Media Studies at the University of Georgia. His films have been commissioned by streaming platforms such as Showtime, BET+, and TUBI.
Mattison holds an MFA in film and television production from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where he studied under Spike Lee, and a BS in mass communication from Norfolk State University. At the University of Georgia he teaches directing, screenwriting, and production capstone. Mattison has held academic appointments at Hampton University, Regent University, the College of New Rochelle, and Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.
As a novelist, Mattison debuted with Unsigned Hype (2009), published by Revell Books and nominated for a South Carolina Book Award in the Young Adult Category. His second novel, Snitch (2011), received a starred review in Publishers Weekly.
