A CHANCE ENCOUNTER with Andrea von Kampen

The Friends of The Ross and the Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase present Nebraska-based singer, songwriter, and actor ANDREA VON KAMPEN, who will join the audience for a Q&A following the 1:30 p.m. screening of A CHANCE ENCOUNTER on Sunday, November 6.

A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

Two Americans, one an aspiring poet and the other an established folk musician, cross paths in the scenic, coastal town of Taormina, Sicily. Their instant chemistry sparks collaboration, leading to an unexpected, weeklong writer’s retreat at a beautiful villa in the Sicilian countryside. As they immerse themselves in the local culture, they challenge each other to express their thorniest secrets, growing closer all the while. More Info…

ANDREA VON KAMPEN, Singer/Songwriter/Actor

Andrea von Kampen is a folk singer-songwriter based in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2015, Andrea released her debut EP Another Day, and the following year placed as a top-ten finalist in NPR’s Tiny Desk contest. After a steady stream of EPs and her debut album Old Country, she released her label debut, That Spell, through Fantasy Records. The record is an emotionally evocative powerhouse. It’s cinematic and sweeping – with literary references, reflections on nature and above all the ability to transport you to a memory, a place in time or somewhere you saw in a dream with vivid lucidity. With these ten songs, she immediately establishes herself as a formidable talent with her deeply felt folk-indebted sound and inquisitive, empathetic lyrics. Andrea has toured nationally alongside acts including Trampled by Turtles/Dave Simonett, Watchhouse, Bonny Light Horseman, the Wood Brothers. Her music has seen over 25 million streams and has had strong support on playlists including Spotify’s Acoustic Chill and Evening Acoustic and Apple’s Acoustic Chill and Breaking Singer/Songwriter. Andrea’s latest endeavor includes composing the soundtrack for and making her acting debut in A Chance Encounter.
