Aspiring young shoe designer Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom) gets fired from his high-profile job after the failure of his latest project. To make matters worse, his girlfriend, Ellen (Jessica Biel), leaves him, and he becomes suicidal. Drew’s morbid plans are interrupted by the news of his father’s death, and he is called back to his Kentucky hometown. On his flight home, he meets the lovely Claire (Kirsten Dunst), a sunny flight attendant who tries to help him embrace life once again.

Cameron Crowe does whimsy well and his deft touch is all over this star-crossed romance starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. He’s a disgraced, self-absorbed shoe designer sent by family to bring his dead father’s body back from Kentucky. She’s a sweet, carefree stewardess who sees through his “I’m okay” facade. Their chemistry is real. While he questions if destiny’s brought them together, she empowers him to take the road trip he promised he would make. She plans it out to homemade maps and mix tapes to reveal Kodak moments, including scenic Platte River overviews, and a fork in the road.
