Film Information
Director/producer Catherine Lohmeier will join the audience for a Q&A following the 7:00 p.m. screening of REMEMBER THE DRUMSTICK on Friday, November 4.
The documentary REMEMBER THE DRUMSTICK explores the rise and fall of a family owned fried chicken restaurant in Lincoln, NE turned rock and roll club in the 1980s, and the young enigmatic man, Tim Lohmeier, who made it the unforgettable legend of its time. Some of the most iconic bands of that decade played there. Bands like, R.E.M, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, X, 10,000 Maniacs.
The story of the Drumstick is a story of family, of tour bands, roadhouse antics and the birth of Alternative Rock. It is a piece of American Rock and Roll History, when MTV was new, and CDs were just making an appearance. Very little remains of the club: a few photos, home videos, advertising posters. But the legend of the Drumstick rests in the memories of those who were there. Friends, family, music lovers, groupies, musicians tell their stories, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic but always real. “The Drumstick was never meant to be a rock and roll club. It just happened,” said Catherine Lohmeier, documentary producer and sister of Tim. “Tim gave young people, who wanted more out of life, a place to belong. He made fried chicken during the day and then rocked the place with the energy of the alternative music scene at night. He dared you to show up, to laugh, dance and make friends. And in this age of ear buds, smart phones and social media it doesn’t get more real than that.”
