Corporate downsizing expert Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) spends his life in planes, airports, and hotels, firing people for businesses around the country. But just as he’s about to reach a milestone of ten million frequent flyer miles, a suggestion at the home office threatens to derail his comfortable routine and an unexpected relationship with a fellow traveller (Vera Farmiga) makes him rethink his transient life.

When his face-to-face practice of letting people go is threatened, so is the noncommittal life he’s built. A callous colleague determined to phase out his old ways and a new flame he didn’t bargain for in his calculus have him question everything. His comings and goings bring him to Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and Old Market. The Midwest anchors the rootless bicoastal work he brings unexpected empathy to.
